Does Arizona particpate in Daylight Savings Time?
Yes and no. Most of Arizona does not participate in Daylight Savings Time,
except for the Navajo nation in the northeast corner of the state. So why don't we? Well, best I can determine, the main reason seems to be that it's HOT here in the summer and why extend that another hour? If we participated in DST, our summer sunsets would be after 9:00pm. A lot of people wait to do outdoor activities - yardwork, visiting with neighbors, etc - until after the sun starts to set, so waiting another hour puts a kink in that. But, DST does affect us. At least some of our commerce has to change hours when DST springs forward and falls back. Call centers, for instance, often have to change employees' work schedules ahead or back an hour to meet the schedule of the rest of the country. |
